The 2024 ECS conference addressed current conflicts over the scope and enforcement of European copyright law, and looked for ways to resolve these conflicts in a trustworthy manner and with a balanced outcome. The first session focused on the role of copyright in the data economy, in particular the impact of copyright on data access rights. In the second session, Thomas Koch, the presiding judge of the copyright senate of the Bundesgerichtshof, gave a keynote speech on the cooperation between the Bundesgerichtshof and the CJEU in the application and interpretation of EU copyright law. The third session was dedicated to copyright in the platform economy. Finally, the fourth session looked at European copyright from the perspective of sustainable development and human rights.
